HOME EXTERIOR PAINTING
Paint TYpe
Acrylic latex is best for most surfaces. It’s flexible, weather-resistant, and breathable. Elastomeric paint for masonry/stucco—very water-resistant, bridges hairline cracks. Oil-based (alkyd) primer for bare wood or stained areas; topcoat should be latex.
FINISH
Satin or low-sheen for most siding—balances durability and hides imperfections. Gloss/semi-gloss for trim—more durable and easy to clean.
HOW MANY COATS?
Primer: 1 coat
Paint: 2 coats minimum for durability and even coverage. Apply top-to-bottom, always keeping a wet edge to avoid lap marks.
